FUNERAL CELEBRANT

MY SERVICE

As you are reading this you have obviously recently suffered a bereavement and are considering the services of a funeral celebrant so let me first of all offer to you and your family my sincere condolences.

In order to give your loved one a personal and fitting service, I will:

  • Visit you at home to gather all of the information necessary to compose a service.
  • Tailor the service exactly to your requirements and advise you on every aspect of the funeral.
  • Before the day of the funeral, I will provide you with a copy of the script so that any changes can be made and ensure that you are comfortable with the content.
  • It is my firm belief that the end of life for everyone should be not only a time for mourning but also a time for celebration, when we can share with family and friends, everything that was special and important in a loved one’s life.  I will spend time with you and your family to make sure that everything you consider important, whether it be some anecdote, a poem, a favourite hymn or a piece of music will be included in the service.

Please be assured that if you decide to have me as your funeral celebrant I will do my utmost to make the service for your loved one a fitting and memorable tribute.

A LITTLE BIT ABOUT ME

My name is Gordon Thomson and I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to you and explain a little about my background.  I live in Bathgate and I am available to carry out services in the central belt in Scotland.

I have been involved in the funeral profession for over thirty five years as a funeral director having started my working life in the mining industry as a fitter at Polkemmet Colliery in Whitburn. I found my way into the funeral business purely by chance but after a very short time realised that this would be a lifelong commitment for me. I still work as a funeral director but as I approach the end of my working life I have decided to work part time and try to focus more on my role as a funeral celebrant.  After several years working as a funeral director I was asked on a few occasions to act as a celebrant which I agreed to with some hesitation and reluctance. It soon became clear to me, however, that my experience in dealing with bereaved families would be a great asset in this role. Having suffered sad and tragic losses myself and helped a great many families through these saddest of times I believe that I am sensitive to all of your needs in these difficult days.

Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.

The death of someone is a parting of the ways and there is a great sadness in that parting when one road continues ever onward as it always has and always will. The other road leads to a place of tranquillity and peace where those who have borne the burden of pain and suffering can at last find rest and comfort.
